In 2008, it started as an idea. Today, thousands of people come together in Columbus, Ohio to make an impact in the fight against cancer.

Pelotonia is a grassroots fundraising initiative that donates 100% of its proceeds to the innovative and lifesaving cancer research being done at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center - James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute.

Every year, thousands of people gather in Columbus to take part in a three-day biking experience that spans more than 180 miles through the city, small towns, and beautiful scenery of Central Ohio. For many, the connection to cancer is deeply personal and serves as the inspiration for Beam Benefits team members to rally behind such an important cause.

Pelotonia story

The Beam Peloton kicked off its fourth year of involvement, raising funds over the last eight months, steadily increasing as the summer ride weekend approached. This year, the team was made up of 11 Beamers who committed to riding various distances (37-101 miles), each with its respective fundraising commitment ($1200-$2,000).

While the ride weekend has passed, fundraising continues through early October and Beamers are on track to raise more than $15,000 which will bring the four-year cumulative total to approximately an impressive $64,000.

Each individual’s experience as part of the Pelotonia community is incredibly unique. Read on for a peek into personal thoughts and stories from Beam Riders themselves about their journeys.

Pelotonia story

The journey from the initial commitment to the finish line is a testament to the dedication and passion of each team member. Months of training, preparation, and fundraising came to a close as riders crossed the finish line but ultimately, their efforts continue to make an impact and progress critical research.

Special thanks to Beam’s Peloton Captains, Hannah Thompson and Rebecca Lubben, who took on this opportunity to lead, guide, and encourage our team members every step of the way.
