Have you not been feeling like yourself lately? You’re not alone, this time of year, many people experience a classic case of seasonal affective disorder – commonly referred to as SAD. What are the culprits behind recent mood changes and low energy levels? Those would be the early sunsets and winter weather much of the country experiences at this time of year.

Now that the problem has been identified, what is the solution to cure your SAD? We went looking for answers from the Beam team and here’s what they have found to work well.

Find a ritual

Listen to a certain podcast as you begin your day. Go for a walk on your lunch. Put on your favorite music while you cook dinner in the evening. Choosing specific activities that bring joy can help maintain a regular schedule and more importantly, alleviate symptoms of SAD.

Breathe in the fresh air

Whether you’re in the office or working from home, make sure to take mini breaks throughout your day to get outside. Just a few minutes of outdoor activity can improve your self-esteem. So, bundle up and get out and about.

Write down your thoughts

Journaling can have a positive effect on your mood. Prior to going to bed, write down how you feel, your thoughts, and concerns. Putting your feelings to paper may help identify what’s causing your sadness and lift your mood.
